AFC Bournemouth and Leyton Orient have both confirmed via their official websites that left back Charlie Daniels is set to join the Cherries later today (Thursday).

The Cherries agreed a fee with League One rivals Leyton Orient on Wednesday and the 25 year old is believed to have passed a medical and agreed personal terms to complete a move to Dean Court.

Daniels will initially join AFC Bournemouth on loan and then complete a reported £200,000 permanent move in January when the transfer window opens.

Daniels is expected to sign a three and a half year contract with the Cherries.

We asked Stephen Ratcliffe from Vital Orient to tell us what he thought about the transfer deal.

He said…

‘Basically, there’s a fair bit of anger we’ve sold him to you, if I’m honest. I don’t want to come across as arrogant but we feel that selling arguably one of our best players to you, is a sideways move for Charlie. I think we view you as a club of similar size to us so there’s a fair bit of anger that we’ve let him go.

‘I suppose it can be looked on in two ways; one, we’ve sold a player out of contract for £200,000 or two, why have we let him go, seemingly, without a fight. I feel that we could have offered him a new contract and taken it from there. We see him as a player who can play at a higher level with ease, so him joining another League One side is a bit of a kick in the teeth. I think our fans are annoyed about the money. Don’t get me wrong £200,000 is a great deal for a man who’s soon to be out of contract, but we won’t see it re-invested in our side.

‘Charlie has been fantastic for us and is seen as one of the best, if not the best, left sided players in this division. His partnership with Dean Cox, produced something frightening like 50 goals between them last season (that’s assists for both and Cox’s goals). So you can see based on stats that you’re getting yourself an attacking minded player. Defensively, he’s sound as well.

‘Remembering how you played at our place earlier this year, if you have a quality left midfielder to compliment Charlie, you’ll be fine. You had Scott Malone and Nathan Byrne who caused us no end of problems earlier this season so if you can match that partnership on the left, you’re going to be even harder to beat.’

Thanks again to Stephen for taking the time to tell us his views.
