Since promotion to the top flight of English football, Stamford Bridge the home of Chelsea has proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Cherries.

Both times AFC Bournemouth have travelled to London to face Chelsea as defending Premier League champions, the Cherries have left with all three points.

During our first season in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho’s side was humbled by an excellent defensive display that saw AFC Bournemouth hit Chelsea with a late winner from Glenn Murray, in what proved to be a historic week for the club as a few days later they also went on to beat Manchester United.

Then last season, Antonio Conte’s side were humiliated when AFC Bournemouth won 3-0 in their first away win in seven trips away from Dean Court.

Chelsea had been unbeaten in 8 games in all competitions and had won 7 of their last 9 outings at Stamford Bridge.

This time around AFC Bournemouth travel in good form, having won three and drawn once in all competitions.

The two wins and a draw in the Premier League had seen the same starting XI, but after some impressive displays in the EFL Cup, after Howe made ten changes, the Cherries could be set to rotate the squad for this trip.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told afcb.co.uk

“…Both of our new players – Diego Rico and Jefferson Lerma – did really well. It’s very difficult to come straight into a game and settle in. It will do them the world of good just to have that experience today to feel what it’s like to play for Bournemouth. They both acquitted themselves very well…”

“…Everyone’s in contention to play, they’ve come through the game okay fitness-wise and it was a positive night for them.

Your say…

I am feeling a very different vibe this year. The good start certainly contributes to it, the new signings look positive, the old guard looks energized for the most part. Sure, there will be some bad results and possibly poor performances, but I am feeling (so no scientific value) that the season will produce far more positives than negatives, and that the negatives will be handled with less panic. A nice drama-free 50 point season ………. ahhhh. – Join the conversation, click here.
