AFC Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick was delighted with the news that Lewis Grabban has joined Benik Afobe and Juan Manuel Iturbe in joining the club during the January transfer window.

The Premier League transfer window re-opened at the turn of the year with the Cherries moving quickly to sign Iturbe on a season long loan deal from Serie A side Roma.

The second signing came on Sunday, when the Cherries broke their transfer record to sign Benik Afobe from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee, reported to be in-excess of £8million.

On Monday evening, Lewis Grabban became the third signing, when he returned from Premier League rivals Norwich City, again for an undisclosed fee in-excess of £6million.

Elphick told afcb.co.uk

“I am absolutely delighted Grabbs is coming back, He`s a great player and also a good pal of mine. Very rarely in football do you stay in touch with people, as cynical as that sounds, but Grabbs is someone I have always stayed in contact with…

‘…It`s now three really exciting new players in the dressing room, It`s great to see we have been so active in the market this early. It`s brilliant to see us getting our business done so early and so well.

“The squad is very strong now and it`s great for the club. It just proves to show what direction we are going in.”

Happy with this – works really hard even if his finishing leaves a bit to be desired.

Ideal for our system and he, Afobe and Iturbe should ensure we can get through the rest of this season without the hicup we suffered following Callum’s injury even if Max and Callum miss the rest of the season.

Respect to all at the club for moving so quickly this window given the importance of the next few games.
