Are there set to be a couple of departures from AFC Bournemouth before the transfer window closes?

There have been five new arrivals at Dean Court this summer, with the additions of Ryan Fredericks on a free transfer from West Ham United, Joe Rothwell from Blackburn Rovers, also on a free transfer, the £ 10 million signing of Marcus Tavenier from Middlesbrough, the free transfer capture of Neto from Barcelona and most recently the £10.5 million purchase of Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord.

AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker has also publicly stated that he would like to see some further additions to his side, so does that mean that there could be additional departures to make room amongst the squad?

Reportedly two players close to the exit door are Emiliano Marcondes and Siriki Dembele.

Dorset Live reporter Daniel Davis has posted on social media that the attacking midfielder has turned down a loan move to Brondby as he “is keen to fight for first-team football in the Premier League”.

Whilst De Marke Sports, appearing to quote beIN Sports, has posted on Twitter something in Turkish which loosely translates via Google to “Beşiktaş have made a lease offer with option to buy” Dembele.

Speaking to the Daily Echo about a potential move for Marcondes, Cherries head coach Scott Parker didn’t appear to rule out a move for him…

“…Regarding Emi, big challenge for him, that’s clear. Last year, probably didn’t play a lot of football at the back end of the season in the Championship. Wasn’t really involved in and around it.

“Constant professional, he had a big part to play early on and then just found his way. Found himself out the side, really.

“So, look, a decision probably will be for Emi again this year in that sense.

“And we’ll have to make that call when we get closer to that window or between now and then, to see exactly what Emi wants and how that picture may look for him this year.

“But, yeah, ultimately that will be down to him.”

Your say…

Fair play to him wanting to back himself. I think I said somewhere else that the new system might play into his hands and open up a chance at some point, even if its only some minutes from the bench. However, brutal as it may seem, he’s going to have to pretty much prove himself immediately otherwise he’ll drop down the pecking order again as other players become available. It may seem unfair when others get much more time/chances to adapt but that’s the nature of football when there are several in front of you in the manager’s opinion.

However, if we do end up bringing in a couple more, he may be in danger of missing the cut for the 25 which would be a shame.

Good to see a player backing his ability ahead of the manager’s assessment though. Sometimes it works out. – Join the conversation, click here.

He does have flair, but I’m not convinced he’s of PL standard, could be wrong of course. From my understanding his decision-making/intelligence (in footballing terms, of course, isn’t quite there for the top flight).

I think Scott Parker isn’t like Eddie Howe to the same extent in terms of signing players for the long term. Numerous signings last season that gave us plenty of depth and overall quality for the Championship, but serious question marks over their ability to perform at the next level (in my opinion). No doubt some are of course. Look at all the loan signings, free agents and players signed who have since left or aren’t making the bench after signing less than a year ago. I think he signs what he feels is the right tool for the job for the short term, and isn’t afraid to discard them soon after if they aren’t what he needs, up to standard.

Dembele is pretty much at his peak.

Dembele is a very good player to have at your disposal in the championship, so perhaps a loan to a club willing to pay most his wages, as he may come handy again next season…

Whilst we can pick out examples of players who made the step up and excelled, there are many more who don’t. Sometimes, people, even managers get it wrong, but bearing in mind Parker sees him every day in training, has some degree (I assume) of skill in judging players ability/potential and their job relies on results and success, if a player is moved on, I think most of the time you have to assume something was lacking in the player otherwise why move them on? ( it’s also telling judging by which club actually signs them…).Not every player is capable of performing consistently well at every level, even if given a chance. most have a ceiling, to varying degrees. And I think that’s what we’re seeing here with Dembele and probably Jamal Lowe. The unpopular comment probably, but I’d say Mepham has much more potential to make it at this level versus the 2 names I just mentioned…

kirsikka added…

Junior Stanislas, David Brooks, Jaidon Anthony, Ryan Christie, Siriki Dembele. Siriki Dembele’s problem is, out of those he’s the fifth choice for what would be two places in a formation we may not play much this season.

He got limited game time last season, and that’s when two of those five were unavailable.

Add in the rumours about us bidding for Karlsson. If they’re true his potential opportunities look extremely restricted.

Like with Marcondes, I would have no problem if he wanted to back himself to break into the team.

I would also understand if he wanted to move on. I don’t think he’s done anything wrong since he came here. Sometimes that’s how it works out in football. – Join the conversation, click here.
