Despite Liverpool and Chelsea interest, midfielder is “focusing on Bournemouth at the moment”

|

After just four Premier League appearances and 181 minutes of football, Lewis Cook has already been linked with interest from Chelsea and UEFA Champions League winners Liverpool.

The 2018/19 campaign was a low point for Cook as a knee injury sidelined him for nine months, ending his recent run of breaking into the England squad and being on standby for the World Cup squad.

But he has now returned to full fitness and is battling to break into the Cherries squad on a regular basis.

The 2019/20 season could be a season for the 22-year-old to come of age.

In a battle for a midfield duo in Eddie Howe’s current set-up, Cook currently appears to be down the pecking order behind Colombia international Jefferson Lerma and Denmark midfielder Philip Billing.

Without the promise of regular starts on the south coast, Cook could be forgiven for having his head turned by potential attractive interest from the giants of England’s top flight, but the former Leeds United trainee insists he is fully committed to AFC Bournemouth.

Lewis Cook told the Daily Echo

“…I had been out for a long time, so I am just focusing on Bournemouth at the moment…”

“…I just forget about it (the speculation) really.

“You’ve just got to focus on your football here and keep enjoying it. I am obviously enjoying playing football again – that’s all I am focusing on right now.”

When pressed whether he was “fully committed” to AFC Bournemouth Cook added…

“Yeah, definitely. I am enjoying my football here, it’s a great place to be and play great football.”

Your say…
