Coulibaly: Feeling good after training return

AFC Bournemouth attacker Mohamed Coulibaly is targeting a return to first team football during the Christmas period.

The Cherries summer signing from Swiss Super League side Grasshopper Club Zürich has struggled with injuries ever since he joined the Cherries during their pre-season training camp in July and went on to sign a two year contract.

He initially impressed in Eddie Howe’s side and during his home debut he was named as man of the match for his performance against nine time European champions Real Madrid.

Coulibaly started for AFC Bournemouth on the opening day of the season against Charlton, but was forced off injured after just 55 minutes.

He returned to action as a 63rd minute substitute against Watford in the League Cup, before a 71st minute sub appearance against Doncaster Rovers in the Championship.

The first international break was then used to work on his fitness, but he broke down again as a 81st minute substitute against Blackburn Rovers at the end of September and hasn’t played since.

The Senegalese winger has been out to Rome for treatment on his troublesome Achilles and has now returned to training.

The Birmingham match came too soon for him, but the games coming up between Christmas and New Year are a real target.

Coulibaly told afcb.co.uk

“I`m really happy because I went a long time without training, I enjoyed the first week and I feel good, but I have to be careful. Everything is good and hopefully it will stay that way and I can work on my fitness next week.

“It was a strange injury in my Achilles and it wasn`t easy because there was some inflammation, but it is better and hopefully I can get to my best as soon as possible…’

‘…It is possible that I can play in these games (over Christmas) and if it is ok with the gaffer, then it is what I want to do.”
