AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook for an officially undisclosed fee.

Cook has been a long time target of Eddie Howe, with the Cherries first linked at the end of 2015, with their interest confirmed by then Leeds United manager Steve Evans during the most recent, January transfer window (Click here for previous article).

Lewis Cook remained with Leeds United, with AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe frequently seen watching Leeds United matches towards the end of last season.

This week a move took a step forward with the Daily Telegraph on Thursday reporting that a £6million fee had been accepted.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer Phil Hay suggested that Cook could be offered a deal worth £30,000 a week.

Cook travelled over from the Republic Of Ireland to complete a medical and sign personal terms on a four year contract at Dean Court.

The Guardian have reported the deal to be worth ‘an initial £6million fee’ but is set to ‘rise to nearer £10million with add-ons..

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk

‘We’re pleased to be bringing one of the country’s brightest prospects to the club.

‘Lewis has impressed since earning his spot in the Leeds United first-team and we feel that he can continue his rapid progress under the tutelage of Eddie (Howe) and Jason (Tindall).

‘He’s represented England at youth level and won plenty of individual awards last season, we’re excited to see him flourish further at Vitality Stadium over the next four years.’

Completing the deal now also means that 19 year old Cook can join up with the Cherries squad for the pre-season training camp in Chicago.

Awesome news. One of the signings we desperately needed and good to have secured the number one target.

Welcome to AFCB Lewis. I wish you all the best and hope you can deliver and progress your career with us even further. Remember Wilson was on the verge of an England call-up just as he got injured last season so aim high.

Edited to add: After getting our first England U21 since Howe’s younger days with Callum not so long back, I suspect this will be our first England U21 regular. Strange times.
