AFC Bournemouth`s new signing Steve Cook has stated that he had actually already made his mind up about joining the Cherries before the weekend.

Cook featured for both AFC Bournemouth and Brighton over the New Years weekend after he was recalled by Brighton manager Gus Poyet after the Championship side had suffered a number of injuries and suspensions.

With Cook returning to Brighton it had looked likely that the Cherries hopes of signing Cook permanently had been at best delayed, while some sections of the Cherries supporters had feared the deal would be called off.

But after the defender was on the winning side against Southampton, Cook thought it was a fitting way to leave the club that he had originally joined when he was just nine and is now looking forward to regular first team football at Dean Court.

Cook told afcb.co.uk

“…A lot of League One clubs could have given me first team football but I love it here. There’s a great atmosphere and the club has so much potential I would be stupid not to sign.

‘I had already made my decision that I was going to sign before the game on Monday whatever happened. I played well and we (Brighton) won so I was pleased to end on a high, but I was more pleased to have things sorted with Bournemouth.

‘The lads at Brighton were pleased that I had gone out on loan and done well for myself. I’ve got some good friends and been there for a long time so it was a difficult decision to leave, but you’ve got to think about yourself and your future.’
