The first 2013/14 fixture has been unveiled, as AFCB host Portsmouth in the Capital One Cup 1st Round.

The match will be played on the week commencing 5th August at the Goldsands Stadium.

The clubs met three times last season, including in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, when Pompey won on penalties. The clubs are also facing each other during pre-season.

The draw was seeded and regionalised, with AFCB a seeded side in the southern section after being in the top 17 clubs based on last season’s league positions.

Cherries manager, Eddie Howe, has already reacted to the draw by speaking to the :

‘It is a great draw for both clubs and we are really looking forward to the tie… Being a derby, the game will have added spice and it has all the makings of being an excellent spectacle between two teams which like to play good football.’

Since the memorable 2005/06 season, where the club knocked out then Premier League club, Blackburn Rovers in the competition, The Cherries have struggled to make an impact in the Cup, with last year involving a sorry defeat to Oxford. Eddie will ideally be looking at this years competition as a means of creating some momentum and good spirit amongst the camp as they embark on their Championship campaign.
