AFC Bournemouth have filed their accounts for the year ending 31st July 2016.

The accounts show a near operating profit of £5million with a recorded profit after tax for the year of £3.4million.

As a direct comparison, the Cherries made a loss of £38.6million in the 2015 accounts.

Following promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, staff costs increased from £29.6million in the 2015 accounts to almost double that figure in 2016 of £59.6million.

However turnover increased from £12.9million in 2015 to £87.9million in 2016, due to everything that follows promotion to the top flight of English football including the Premier League television money from both domestic broadcasting with Sky Sports and BT Sport and the international television rights.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk

‘…During the financial year, the club’s focus was to consolidate its position in the Premier League through targeted expenditure on assets and expertise in the playing squad and supporting infrastructure.

“Player and team management wages, including Premier League retention bonuses, also increased as the club strived to offer competitive remuneration packages to attract and maintain the calibre of playing and team management staff necessary to allow the club to compete in the league, with the aim of maintaining Premier League status…’

‘…The club is in a more secure position than it ever has been, and measures are being taken regarding infrastructure and facilities to ensure that it continues to grow and build on its success.’

Making a profit running a football club whilst also managing to compete on the pitch is a massive achievement at any level. Well done to both the Board and Eddie Howe.Join the conversation here.
