AFC Bournemouth new signing Lys Mousset would have joined south coast neighbours Southampton if Ronald Koeman had not left the club for Everton.

That’s according to Daily Echo reporter Neil Perrett on Twitter.

AFC Bournemouth completed the signing of Le Havre youngster Lys Mousset earlier this week.

The deal was officially undisclosed but has been reported as in the region of ?6.5million, whilst Mousset has signed a four year deal at Dean Court.

The 20 year old is a France Under 20’s international, who made his debut for French Ligue 2 side Le Havre when he was 18.

Last season he scored 14 goals in 29 appearances as Le Havre almost won promotion to the top flight of French football.

As well as interest from Southampton, Mousset had also been on the radar of English sides Arsenal, Tottenham and Sunderland as well as clubs across Europe including Monaco and Sevilla.

Lys Mousset is versatile as he can play either as a central striker or out wide and AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is looking forward to working with the youngster.

Howe told the Daily Echo

“Lys is a really talented young centre-forward who we believe will be a real asset for us, both in the short and long term. He has just had a really good season for Le Havre and scored a number of goals.

“Myself, Jason and our team of scouts have all watched him a lot and we liked what we saw…’

‘…There was a lot of competition for his services and it was quite a protected transfer so we are very pleased to have got it over the line…’

‘…He has all the attributes you look for in a young player. He is a good size, he is very strong, very quick and knows where the goal is. He is very much in the AFC Bournemouth mould. We are really excited to have signed him and are very much looking forward to working with him.”

Interesting that the official site list him as a centre forward – can play on the wing as well.Join the conversation here.
