Blackpool manager Michael Appleton has not ruled out Wesley Thomas returning to the Championship side after he returned to the south coast following the end of his loan spell.

Thomas had been on emergency loan with the Championship club after being reunited with manager Michael Appleton following his move from Portsmouth two months ago.

Thomas made nine appearances for Blackpool (7 starts) scoring three goals.

It had been thought that Blackpool would make an attempt to make the deal permanent come the start of the January transfer window, however they instead made a bid to extend his loan initially by one extra month with a view to seeing out the season at Bloomfield Road.

With the Cherries still partly funding the forwards wages, the Cherries rejected the approach leaving the 25 year old striker to return to Dean Court.

With Thomas going out on loan to Portsmouth during Paul Groves unsuccessful period in charge and Thomas handing in a transfer request upon his return to AFC Bournemouth, Thomas has played just 19 minutes of football under new AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent

‘We were reluctant to lose him to Blackpool the first time, But his desire to play in the Championship was such we couldn’t hold him back, so we’ll wait and see what happens with that one in January.

‘I would love him to stay and play but the player needs to want to play for us, and as with all these things you are very much in the hands of the player.’

Blackpool manager Michael Appleton told BBC Lancashire…

‘…We’re a little bit frustrated and he’s a little bit frustrated because I’m not sure if he’ll have much involvement at Bournemouth.

‘But we’re still in the early part of January and I wouldn’t say the door’s completely closed on that one at all. A lot of things can happen and I’m sure there will be discussions over the next week or so.’
