AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe was delighted to score for Cherries manager Eddie Howe.

Afobe has only started three times in the Premier League this season, but has scored in two of those games.

The first came in the away defeat to Burnley, whilst his second was the opener for AFC Bournemouth’s eventual 3-0 victory over Swansea City.

His performances have forced him into contention alongside regular strikers Callum Wilson and Joshua King.

Afobe told afcb.co.uk

‘…The manager showed faith in me by starting me and I wanted to repay him with a goal, so I’m happy.

‘There were chances, I was disappointed when Jack (Wilshere) squared it to me on the edge of the box, I lost my composure but maybe if you’re playing week-in-week-out those chances fly in.

‘But the goal was a great relief and a goal at a crucial time.’

‘The lads have been helping me a lot and I want to improve personally, We’re tenth at the moment but we need to keep working hard. We’ve got to be looking at the top half and continue to work hard in order to get results to climb the league.’

Played really well I thought so it’s good to hear he’s not going off to the Afcon. Sensible from him too because he’s got in the side on merit and this could be where he really kicks on for us.

He looked knackered for the last 15 mins so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rested against Arsenal.
