The points tally has been excellent recently but we haven’t had the performances to match. However, we came out of the blocks full of purpose and energy. The intent we’ve been lacking so much of recently was finally in full evidence. Great to see!

The ref was night and day to the last one, happy to let a very physical game take place without blowing up for a free-kick. Something A Smith struggled with, for one. Fortunately, it did cut both ways as when Phillips started to put in a few challenges he was equally lenient.

The first 45 AFCB were the better side but didn’t create a chance of note. That final ball or shot was never quite delivered. For all their lack of play, they had the better chances.

The equaliser came from so many players looking to get forward. I can’t be upset at that since that’s what we’ve been crying out for. Sometimes it will bite you and that’s the tradeoff so you can’t get too riled when it does. Hopefully, it doesn’t put Parker off encouraging the players to carry on with the tactic.

Lowe had his best half as a winger for us. Still didn’t look completely comfortable out there but was a threat at times.

At the end it was a game in which we played well for some spells, looking much better than we have of late. The result wasn’t what we wanted but if we perform like that for the rest of the season the points will come and we’ll end up promoted.

Oh yes, and what nonsense at the end after the second PNE goal. The manager and a sub being sent off is not a good look. A Smith may struggle to get back in with three RBs in the squad. Not clever.

Postive performances:
L Cook – Best performance from him since he came back. He was all over the place, cleaning up other people’s mess and always available as an option.

Lowe – You can’t argue with his goal impact, although I’d still say his goal was a strikers one. Unfortunate with the ball bouncing off his heels for the winner.

Kelly – Looked good for most of the match. Mature performance.

Room for improvement:
Zemura – Exposed defensively repeatedly. Plus, wasn’t popping up in unusual attacking places as he did earlier in the season.

Anthony – Also not up to his earlier season standards. He’s going to face a lot of competition for that spot now Christie is back to fill in on the other side so needs up up his game again.

The final question of the day:
Does Ryan Lowe wear shin pads? It looks like his socks were rolled halfway down his shins 1980s style.

What in the world happened at the end?

The worst person on the pitch: the ref. Absolute shambles, missing fouls all over the place for both teams, failed to even give a foul for what should have been a second yellow for their redheaded CB pulling back Solanke. The only bright spot for him is that there weren’t any contentious penalties or red card situations to further screw up.

Well, that was disappointing, sat at ground level it looked like Billing and Cantwell had poor matches, leaving Lewis Cook to do all the grafting ( which he did superbly ). There was a lot of ” flattering to deceive” without enough ooomph to convert it into goals. Recently we’ve been good enough to be lucky enough to win somehow, we’re good enough to not need to rely on luck.
Not much atmosphere from both sets of fans until the goals. Good to be travelling home with a lovely sunset unravelling over the Lancashire countryside : )
No idea what the touchline kerfuffle was about, will the club be organising a ballot among all us experts to fill in during Scotty’s suspension : )
My verdict, it’s a blip and we’ll be back on track next week : ) – Join the conversation, click here.
