The Tindall Positives

Let’s inject a bit of positivity and come up with some of the good points about an internal appointment. So far I have:

– There were worries that some of the younger players would end up feeling sidelined by a new manager and that their progress might be set back to square one as they try to convince a new guy to trust them. Jason Tindall may change things but there should be enough continuity to allay some of those fears.

– Whatever the tactics, they’re more likely to be an evolution rather than revolution. The basic principles that underpinned the Eddie Howe years should remain in place so we don’t need to redraw the entire player mindset across the whole club.

– If it works, it could be the first step in establishing a genuine boot room culture at the club which could serve us far into the future.

– It shouldn’t mean a complete change in direction for transfer targets since JT would have been involved in all the discussions prior to this point. It might mean player B is chased instead of player A, but the bulk of the previous work should still be valid instead of all being ripped up.

– There’s no need for a bedding in period for the manager to get to know the squad. From day one he’ll know exactly where he thinks we need strengthening and who he feels can do a job next year. This allows us to move quickly which is especially important given the shorter close season.

– By accounts, Max Demin and Jason already have a good working relationship so there’s likely to be a lot of trust there. It’s important Max doesn’t have hesitation in backing the new guy when it comes to writing cheques.

– At least he won’t be unsettled by living out of a hotel or his family living in another part of the country/overseas!

– Preparing for things to not go so well, as he’s a number two stepping up to a number one you’d hope we can negotiate a contract break clause for us without a huge compensation payment. He’s unlikely to be offered the top job elsewhere so we have some power to insist on that which we may struggle with in appointing a more celebrated name.

Is Tindall the right choice for manager?

The bloke cares for the club and is Bournemouth through and through.

I have a hunch JT’s style will be a little more pragmatic and a little less dogmatic than Eddie can sometimes be.

JT did a lot of the set-piece stuff, which sometimes worked! So we’ll retain that. The step over corner? We can dream.

We can see a bit of what Purches could do as well.

That’s my best positive spin. Good luck JT – Join the conversation, click here.
