The reluctance to play Lewis Cook

Can anyone shed any light on this at all? We have a 35-year-old dinosaur playing Centre Back in the Premier League who took longer to recover from the same injury as Lewis and is seemingly one of the first names on the team sheet, now whilst this could be more down to defensive injuries than an Eddie Howe/Simon Francis love story it doesn’t explain how Lewis Cook isn’t getting a game in midfield.

Ok, Francis is our captain, but Steve Cook and Dan Gosling have adequately led the team in the past.

Jefferson Lerma is the first name on the team sheet for midfield, no one can argue with that and was injured Saturday and was banned before that so Philip Billing and Dan Gosling are neck and neck for being the second name (I’m assuming but I rate Cook just as good), what makes no sense is how Andrew Surman (who hadn’t played a Premier League game this season) has managed to play 2 90 minutes in a row with Lewis on the bench.

Lewis has to be our most creative midfielder, looks for through balls and plays it forward. He has also captained England at various youth levels and gained a senior cap or two. There has to be something Eddie seriously doesn’t like about him – it seems similar to the Tyrone Mings situation where despite bans and injuries in that position he doesn’t get a decent chance and plan C,D and E are given ago instead.

Your say…

Lewis Cook gets caught on the ball an awful lot, maybe Eddie feels he wants someone who is less wasteful. Cook has great creative abilities and good vision but maybe Surman’s steady consistency gets him the nod?

We’re not in a position to play potential and the other players playing are better than him at the moment, pretty simple really. The Lewis Cook blindness baffles me almost as much as calls for Kilkenny.

It’s incredible how Lewis is never played in his central midfield position

He will go back to Leeds in the summer and be raved about week after week next season, while we watch Surman and Gosling in the Championship. – Join the conversation, click here.

LEWIS COOK LOSES THE BALL TOO MUCH IN PRESENT SYSTEM PLAYED….yes he is creative….however doesn’t give 100% during 90mins…

Lewis Cook gives the ball away far too often at present,he is feeling his way back after the injury,no doubt will come good again but not before next season….
