During the summer, it appears that the AFC Bournemouth board made a decision to invest in the playing squad ahead of any potential plans for either a new training ground complex or a new stadium.

The Cherries went on to make three eight-figure signings.

Attacking midfielder David Brooks made the move from Sheffield United to the Cherries for a reported fee of £10million.

Left back Diego Rico joined AFC Bournemouth from Leganés for a reported fee of £10.7million and then AFC Bournemouth doubled their spending to sign defensive midfielder Jefferson Lerma for £25 million from Levante.

That £25million transfer tag made the Colombia interational the Cherries latest record signing following big signings Nathan Ake for £20million from Chelsea, Jordon Ibe for £15million from Liverpool, Benik Afobe for £10million from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tyrone Mings for £8million from Ipswich Town.

All signings since promotion to the top flight of English football.

Whilst the AFC Bournemouth boardroom may have its critics in regards to off the field matters, they cannot be faulted in their backing of AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe in the transfer market.

Jefferson Lerma had to bide his time to make his debut after his World Cup exploits in Russia with his national side, but once he grabbed the shirt he hasn’t let go.

He has now made 5 Premier League appearances totalling 436 minutes.

Statistics website has him averaging 7.21 out of 10 for his performances thus far this season, second only to Callum Wilson and level with Ryan Fraser who has taken both the August and September player of the month votes.

At 23-years-old, in a new team, playing in a new league and living in a new country, whilst learning the language, it has been an impressive start to his AFC Bournemouth career and certainly hasn’t faulted under the pressure of his price tag.

Remember this guy is only 23. he might get cards, but he has that certain quality we needed in midfield. Our midfield is very young, but they perform. Brook’s, Cook, Lerma and Fraser. young but they have class. – Join the conversation, click here.
