The Cherries came away with an important point this afteroon as promotion hopefulls Barnsley were held to a 0-0 draw at Oakwell.

James Hayter could have stolen all 3 points in the final minute, bringing a fine save out of former Cherry Nick Colgan – who got down well and turned the ball away with his legs.

As you could expect from any home side, a side who treated this fixture as a ‘must win’, Barnsley built up plenty of pressure on the Cherries goal and even had the ball in the back of the net but for a free kick going the Cherries way.

Gareth Stewart earned our Cherries Man-of-the-Match award however, making two very fine saves in the first half. The first a tremendous save from a Richards shot, diving full length and holding onto the ball. The second, a possible ‘Save of the Season’ from a Richards shot, getting down well low to his right.

An important point for the Cherries today. They drop one place to 17th because of Gillingham’s 1-0 home win over promotion contenders Swansea City. Yeovil finished the game 2-2 with Tranmere, and Bradford come back to draw 2-2 with Walsall. Port Vale v. Huddersfield finished 0-0 to keep the Cherries tight with the teams around them, but a win for both Rotherham over Bristol City and for Swindon over Chesterfield makes it important (as always) that the Cherries pick up a win at home to Southend next Saturday.
