Stats: AFC Bournemouth v Manchester United

AFC Bournemouth welcomed Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side to Dean Court for this evening’s Premier League clash.

A goal in each half from Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku sent Eddie Howe’s side to defeat as they suffered back to back losses. Recent form will be a small concern as the Cherries have only won once in the last nine games, but with three matches left to play in the season of 2017/18 we sit in 11th place in the top flight table on 38 points.

With chances falling our way in the game, the big talking point will be the penalty shout that was dismissed when Luke Shaw grappled with Callum Wilson in the box. A leveller tying the scores at 1-1 may have seen a different outcome.

The gap to Southampton, who have five games left to play, remains at ten points.

Despite the current dip, few will argue with the season the club have had as it would take a severe run of unexpected results to deny us a fourth straight season in the top tier and that achievement stands above all else.

Fans will, of course, be hoping to end the campaign on a high though, so eyes turn to Southampton, Swansea City and Burnley as we close the campaign out. Southampton are in 18th place and Swansea 17th place so just remaining unbeaten should more than see us safe.

The next result, however, goes a long way in deciding each club’s future.
