Here is the xG from the C Palace game where the visitors appeared to come for a draw and managed it in an uninspired game. The most controversial moment is arguably should Eze have been sent off early on with the Amazon commentators leaning towards a Yes.

The first 25 minutes were largely even and scrappy with C Palace having a chance (1 in 9) from Munoz that was saved and AFCB having a header from Ouattara (1 in 12) and a follow-up from Semenyo (1 in 7) blocked on the line. From midway in the first half, Bournemouth were the more threatening, although only produced 1 good chance before half time (a bouncing knock back from Unal that Outtara put over (1 in 6) in the 32nd minute, but there were no more shots from either team in the first half. The xG at the break was AFCB 0.72 C Palace 0.24.

AFCB started the second half more brightly with Kluivert missing (1 in 9), but Unal attempted a clever backwards flick from close range that Henderson made a reflex save (36%). That was it for clear chances for either side. AFCB created quite a few but none were more than 1 in 16 efforts. C Palace had two attempts midway through the second half from Eze and Chalabah (both blocked) but the visitor’s main aim was not conceding, which they achieved. The final xG was AFCB 1.47 C Palace 0.45, with understat reporting the game as slightly closer at 1.20 vs 0.50.

xG Timeline.png
There were 3 changes to the team who beat Man Utd, one reportedly due to injury (Aarons for Smith) and two presumably with an eye on minutes over a busy period with Unal for Evanilson and Cook for Adams. As anticipated from recent games, C Palace sat back and looked to hit on the break. As such, our average position resembled a 2-4-1-3, with fullbacks Kerkez (3) and Aarons (37) pushed up as far as Christie (10) and Cook (4) although the ‘1’ was Unal (26) our centre forward, which shows how often Ouattara (11) and Seemnyo (24) were more advanced/ Whilst these data may be confounded by AFCB attacking more after Unal had been substituted, the position of Evanilson (9) was similar. Unal was subbed along with Aarons in the 62nd minute, with Evanilson and Adams (12) coming on. Cook dropped into right back with Adams going central midfield. In the 72nd minute Billing (29) replaced Kluivert (19) in a straight swap and in the 85th minute, Brooks (7) replaced Ouattara (11) although he struggled to be involved. The average position indicates we were under pressure in the last minutes.

Huijsen had the most touches with 93. This is a season high. Semenyo had the most touches in the opposition half (57) and most in the final third with 40. Kerkez had 37 in the final third which is good for a full back. This was AFCB’s most number of touches in a game and in the opposition half.
