AFC Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie believes that the Cherries promotion to the Championship proves he was right to leave Swindon Town.
Ritchie made the move from Swindon to the Cherries during a surprise January transfer move following financial problems for Swindon.
The move for £500,000 was the catalyst for Paulo Di Canio’s eventual departure from Swindon and the clubs slide down the League One table, from title contenders, to just sneaking into the play-offs.
The Cherries by-passed Swindon on route to clinching promotion against Carlisle United last month.
Ritchie signed a three and a half year contract at Dean Court following the move and immediately declared that he wanted to add another promotion to his CV this year.
Following the Cherries promotion to the Championship and Swindon’s demise to Brentford in the League One Play-Offs on Monday, Ritchie believes he has now been proven right about his move.
Ritchie told the Daily Echo…
“I think the league positions show I made the right move. I am delighted I signed here and delighted with promotion.
“I am looking forward to playing in the Championship. It is somewhere I have always wanted to play and I had a little taste when I was at Portsmouth.
“We play good football here under the manager and Jason and have got a great squad of players. It certainly promises to be an exciting season…’
