Rantie: I deserve my chance

AFC Bournemouth striker Tokelo Rantie believes that he deserves his chance with the Cherries in the Premier League.

The South African international has struggled since he made the move from Sweden to the south coast of England in August 2013.

He joined the Cherries from Malmo for an undisclosed fee, reported to be in the region of £2million.

Rantie has since made 50 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals.

But he has struggled for appearances in the league, his last start came in May 2014 for the final game of the 2013/14 season and he has played just 55 minutes of league football in 2015 and 11 of those came against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Rantie told the Daily Echo

“I believe I deserve my chance because I have been working very hard. I have been encouraged by my team-mates and I am very happy to get my first Premier League appearance.

“It is always difficult because when I have been able to train hard, I believe I have given myself the opportunity to get into the team.

“When I do have setbacks, it feels like I am taking 10 steps backwards. It is difficult to catch up because we have a lot of quality players so for me to just break in is very difficult.

“But I am glad to be back now. Hopefully, I can keep working hard and then my chances will most definitely come.”

Our luck, or total lack of, is certainly the major contribution to our season thus far.

The problem as I see it, are those coming in for the injured masses, simply are not Premier League standard. King worked his socks off, but as yet hasn’t shown he’s anywhere near good enough at this level, same goes for Tomlin so far. Stanislas had the best game I’ve seen him have in an AFC Bournemouth shirt (against Newcastle), so more of the same please, Yann Kermorgant looked lost, Rantie (and I’m his biggest fan) was indicating where he wanted through balls to him, yet as usual not one forward pass to him was made, nothing new there then.

I’m not overly confident in either goalkeeper, thank God Arter is back, what a difference he makes.

Gosling isn’t good enough for me either. Atsu, well I have no idea what he even looks like!!

AS I see it, our surge through the leagues was such, Eddie Howe had to make a host of signings, to get our numbers up for a squad of 25. on limited resources by Premier League standards, and too many fall short. IF they can come good, we’ll be ok, but by January we could well be out of sight….
