The AFC Bournemouth development squad could be set to lift the Final Third Development League South trophy.

The Cherries defeated Gillingham 4-2 this week, moving the side five points clear at the top of the table.

Second place side Southend United only have one game remaining, so they cannot catch the Cherries, however third placed AFC Wimbledon can still leapfrog the Cherries to the title as they have two games remaining.

Purches told afcb.co.uk

‘It`s out of our hands, The lads have done everything they can. We spoke briefly about it ahead of the game against Gillingham to give it a slightly bigger edge.

‘They did all that they could in that match to make an impression on this league. I am sure all of them will want to be part of a team that won a trophy, as everyone does.

‘But the main thing is that it was another solid performance and they have been playing very well. They can take a lot of confidence from these recent results.’
