AFC Bournemouth utility player Stephen Purches has signed a contract extension with the club.

Purches re-joined the club from League One side Leyton Orient in 2010 and was coming to the end of his current contract, he had triggered an appearance related clause to give him a further year at Dean Court, however AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell decided to reward Purches for his recent good form with a new two and a half year deal.

The 32 year old already holds the UEFA A Licence and has previously had a spell of coaching at the club`s centre of excellence and Mitchell has said that he hopes Purches will remain at the club beyond his playing years.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo

“…Stephen had an option on extending his contract for a year, providing he was involved in a certain amount of games and he has surpassed that amount of games.

“Because he had been playing so well over the past few months, I felt that rather than him coming to us and saying he wanted to take up his option, to show our appreciation I thought it would be great for us to go to him and ask if we could sign him.

“It was nice for us to be able to reward somebody in that way, rather than them coming to us for an extension of time on the contract…’
