AFC Bournemouth development squad coach Stephen Purches has been pleased with how the squad have developed over the past twelve months.

Purches took over the role a year ago following Chris Hargreaves move from development coach to first team coach.

The set up provides a chance for players to make the progression from youth team football to first team football, with a mix of players either just turning professional or for players during the first years of their careers.

The development squad is there to bridge the gap, offer full time training with regular friendly matches against other sides development squads.

Players such as Baily Cargill and Harry Cornick have drifted between the development squad, first team and loan moves elsewhere and Purches wants his players to go on and forge their way into the first team.

Purches told afcb.co.uk

‘I tell the players that I don’t want to see them every day, We have some good lads who are good players, but I want them to be training with the first team and trying to impress the gaffer.

‘I want them to push on, progress and make a career for themselves.

‘They have to realise this is a stepping stone for them to go on and hopefully be part of a very talented first team squad.’
