Positive and Negatives v Everton

I was there. Hoorah. That trump’s all from a personal perspective.

Swarm is my word of the day. Kieffer Moore can be effective at this level, but only if he has supporting numbers swarming around him. Today we were like a hive of killer bees stinging Everton to death. Brilliant.

I think Gary O’Neil may regret the passive and defensive performances a few weeks ago. Today showed we could have done so much better, and he’d probably be a permanent Premier League manager if we’d have played the same way. In praise of him, he’s obviously learnt pretty quickly so I expect him to pop up at a Championship club as manager soon.

Jefferson Lerma’s ability to position himself so he’s simply where the ball is was outstanding today.

Bill Foley needs one of those underground warehouse rooms under a casino where they take card cheats in Vegas to tie them to a chair and teach them some manners. That’s where we should keep Jordan Zemura until he signs a new deal.

Great to see Adam Smith also getting forward much more than recently.

The whole team was relentless out there and made Everton look bloody awful. 3-0 wasn’t even slightly flattering.

On an England note, Jordan Pickford looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

The only thing I missed was a chant of ‘ Can we play you twice a week?’.

— Positive performances —

Lerma – Immense

Stephens – Solid

Zemura – Energetic

— Room for improvement —

Travers – Hesitant

GO watch: I’m impressed in the way he’s evolved in such a short time. A shame for him we’re in such a ruthless league we can’t give him time to grow into the role.

Onto the next era. We’ve shown we can mix it up here. If we crash and burn, I don’t want to see the quality in the squad blamed. It’s up to the manager to make this group succeed.

The positive for me was that everybody played well from front to back. 3 goals and a clean sheet. Nobody injured. Zemura starting and Anthony getting half an hour and scoring again. Cook having another really good game. Tavernier. Still attacking even after scoring 3. Great to see that GON has finally cottoned on to what a lot of fans, but by no means all on here, have been advocating – attack to defend.
Negatives, 0.
Everton were carp. Incredible that they bought Maupay. Patterson looked worth having with a decent manager to coach him. Can’t believe people have criticised Travers when Pickford is England’s number one.

Am genuinely worried as an England fan if Pickford is the best GK we have in the country and Coady one of the best CB’s. Both are beyond poor today. But that’s for another day. What a performance! Zemura, Smith, Lerma, Cook, Tav – I could go on – all outstanding. We just seemed to want it more, snapping into tackles, And credit to GON, his subs were spot on. Tbh we should have won by more. Don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but play like this and we really should stay up. Tav is destined for best things, I think. What a trajectory he is on. Is it 6 goal involvements in the last 3 games? – To join the conversation, click here.
