On transfer deadline day, AFC Bournemouth secured the signing of Ryan Christie from Celtic for an undisclosed fee, widely reported as £1.5million (Daily Record).

The 26-year-old Scotland international agreed to a three-year deal at Dean Court, having been set to be out of contract with Celtic in January.

In all competitions, Christie played for Celtic 151 times, scoring 41 goals and claiming 44 assists having previously won the “double treble” with Scotland which persists of winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish FA Cup and Scottish League Cup in back-to-back seasons in 2018/19 and 2019/20. Adding to the one Scottish Cup he had previously lifted in 2014/15 with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

This season Christie has already played in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League with Celtic and last night (7th September), he earned his 23rd international cap for Scotland where he has scored 4 times and represented his country in the recent UEFA European Championships.

Christie joins an intriguing set of attacking players amongst the AFC Bournemouth squad, with Junior Stanislas, David Brooks, Philip Billing, Jaidon Anthony, Emiliano Marcondes, Jamal Lowe, Morgan Rogers literally lining up to support the side’s main striker in Dominic Solanke.

AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker told afcb.co.uk

“I’m delighted with the signing of Ryan Christie. His deal was one that felt like it took a while to get completed but I feel we’ve got a top-class player.

“I’m absolutely delighted that we managed to get this signing over the line and fair play to the owner (Maxim Demin), Richard (Hughes) and Neill (Blake) for getting it done.

“We’ve got a very, very good player who brings experience and huge quality so without a doubt, he improves us, and he improves the team, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

So, Ryan Christie. Been a big fan since he came back to Celtic from his loan at Aberdeen. He’s a player that divided opinion up here latterly but looking back on his time in Glasgow I’d say that was due to coaching was/wasn’t getting. Under Brendan Rodger$ (not a typo) he was great for us, could play either wing but was most effective bursting through the middle. There was a real bond between Christie and the manager in that period and the results of that can be seen in his stats. Then came Neil Lennon – who is not a coach, is not renowned for his man-management skills, who destroyed the culture that Rodger$ and his team had instilled and took Celtic’s coaching style back to the 1990s. Christie’s form plummeted last year as did just about everyone in the team as Lennon dragged us down to our lowest level for ten years. If Scott Parker can make Christie feel that he’s wanted, that he’s valued, and plays him consistently in a settled position then you’ll have a gem on your hands. But he needs coached, needs to work on his crossing, and get rid of the idea that he’s got a shot like Messi (another Lennon-inspired notion). I’ve no gripes with him leaving Celtic – he’ll double his wages and who wouldn’t want that? Best of luck to him and to you guys in the Championship this year. Hope you get promoted. – Join the conversation, click here.
