Opinion: Have Bournemouth had their best summer of business yet?

Simply we must have?

We’ve added to last seasons squad defensively with Jack Stacey and Lloyd Kelly, Kelly who can also play centrally if needed and in particular looks like an excellent addition. But both young up and coming talents.

Attacking wise Danjuma and Harry Wilson are exciting attacking players who can only add to our attacking style. One is a very highly talented homegrown player who a number of clubs wanted.

Plus the addition of a strong central midfielder in Philip Billing, a relegated teams player of the season it’s got to be the most exciting set of signings we have made?

Also ridiculous transfer fees for Tyrone Mings and Lys Mousset who won’t really be missed.

The 2 downsides – starting the season without Simon Francis, Lewis Cook, Junior Stanislas, Dan Gosling and David Brooks so some positions will pick themselves, for the time being, once Lewis Cook and Brooks are back we will have some team.

Secondly, assuming in the last week of April Begovic had packed his bags for his ‘extra family time’ and wouldn’t be at the club come the start of pre-season, let alone for the first game creating a 4 way mystery as to who will start as no 1 whereas I’m sure Eddie Howe wanted to have a new keeper with us by now.

But in short, a great summer of business.

Your say…

I’m surprised by the number of signings we’ve made but I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later.

I think this is us finally preparing to replace the old guard, their days are obviously numbered, nothing lasts forever. Ease these new players in gently this season and once they are up to speed the old guard can run out their current contracts as our backup players.

Our recruitment this summer shows that there is definitely a long term plan for building and maintaining the quality of the squad and we’re not simply waiting until it’s too late and having to panic-buy half a team all at once.

The signings we’ve made have all been sensible choices and all have the potential to bring us a decent return in the years to come. All already are or are close to being improvements on what we already have and obviously they are all young enough to be with us for a good few years to come.

This summer feels like the start of Eddie’s Galacticos v2.0, us building a team for the next 5-10 years. – Join the conversation, click here.
