With the Premier League transfer window open, AFC Bournemouth are reportedly already pretty active in the market.

No business has been completed yet, other than the contract extensions of Artur Boruc, Lewis Cook and Simon Francis, but potential transfers both in and out are likely to be being worked on.

According to the Midlands-based Express & Star the Cherries had attempted to sign French defender Willy Boly from Portuguese side Porto, however, the 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan in the Championship with Wolverhampton Wanderers is set to remain at Wolves after they activated an option in their loan to make the deal permanent.

Sky Sports have reported that Wolves are also set to take up their option to buy Benik Afobe for a fee of £12.5million.

However, it isn’t overly clear how that figure is made up, as Wolverhampton Wanderers have already paid the Cherries a “significant” fee, for his half-season loan in 2018, a loan fee that increased by £1million following their promotion to the Premier League (according to the Daily Echo).

The £12.5million could be on top of the fees already paid, along with the saving of wages, or the £12.5million could include all of the money already paid to the Cherries. Either way, the deal should at the very least see AFC Bournemouth recoup the once club record fee the Cherries initially paid to sign him in January 2016.

The Express & Star have suggested that AFC Bournemouth could be looking to replace Afobe with West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez.

The report claimed…

Burnley and Bournemouth are both interested in the 28-year-old, and it’s been reported that West Ham and Crystal Palace are also keen.

Adding…

Rodriguez still has three years left on the four-year contract he signed last summer following his £12million move from Southampton.

It is likely to take roughly double that to get Albion’s attention this summer, and with so many clubs interested, a bidding war could drive the price up.

Howe’s previous relationship with Rodriguez following their time together at Burnley could aid the Cherries chances of winning the attention of the 28-year-old, who is unlikely to want to play second tier football next season.

Speaking about the transfer window in general, AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo

“We now enter a different stage, the most important stage, the transfer market.

“That is one of the most stressful experiences you can go through because you know your hopes for the next season really do rest on what you do in that situation.

“It’s always a delicate balance in the transfer market. We are active, I think we need to do business.

“But you can overkill, you can make too many changes and lose your identity so for us, it’s always quality over quantity and players who can make a difference.

Benik seems like a nice guy and I wish him the best.
Probably best for all though – in his last couple seasons he had an uncanny ability to get himself into incredible scoring chances and even more uncannily miss them.
Maybe in a different environment, he’ll find the confidence he needs to improve his finishing. Just not against us, please. – Join the conversation, click here.
