Shame he was a midfielder and not a goalkeeper! The same thing happened though. He got sent off and the opposition scored from the penalty spot!
However, if the penalties had been missed then Cook and Elliott would have been heroes as a result!
Speaking about the handball from Steve Cook which not only resulted in a red card and the Cherries falling down to ten men for an hour but also handed Norwich the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo…
“…Of course, if he thought about it, he’d have let it go by him and we’d have kept 11 men on the pitch…”
“…It was just instinct and it happened.
“I’m not going to stand there and berate him. It’s happened and I think you have to and support him and go the other way.
“Especially in this moment, for us I think that group staying together rather than getting a feeling of blame, I don’t think that’s going to help us in any way.”
And the most obvious red card in the history of football goes to… Bournemouth defender Steve Cook 😂 pic.twitter.com/nNOQKiqJFX

Steve Cook has just made one of the saves of the season. Stunning. And been sent off for it obviously

304 – Steve Cook's red card for Bournemouth was his first in 304 appearances across the Premier League and the EFL. Handed. #NORBOU

Commanding defender earlier in the season but since that injury has been a pale shadow of a player that was looking, international class. All becoming a bit of a nightmare.
I think we should show Cook some respect and get behind him. He’s soaked up a hell of a lot of pressure for our team and with that comes the odd red mist mistake. We’re going to need him behind the scenes motivating other less experienced players for Brighton and should passionately welcome him back for Villa.
The problem is when you are a senior player, others in the squad look up to you. He made 2 incredibly rash challenges in the build-up for Watford’s 2nd goal and now with today’s brain fart, he loses a lot of credibility in the eyes of the less experienced players. – Join the conversation, click here.
