No great surprise that Bournemouth are heading to Spain again

|

Later this week the AFC Bournemouth squad and management team will fly out to Spain for a pre-season training camp at the La Manga Club Football Centre in Murcia, Spain.

The Cherries are yet to finalise their schedule for the trip to the Mediterranean, but they will face, as yet unknown opponents on Tuesday 16th July at the La Manga Club Football Centre, 8 pm local time.

The second match will take place at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, in Barcelona. The opponents are Girona, managed by former Barcelona assistant manager Juan Carlos Unzue.

Last season they were relegated to the Segunda Division.

AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook told afcb.co.uk

“It will be great to go back. It was tough last season but it was a very worthwhile camp. We had a bit of everything – team bonding, good games and intense training.

“In my opinion, it was the hardest pre-season we’ve had since I’ve been here and I’m sure it will be upped again.

“It’s no real surprise that we’re heading back there because we started last season so well and will be looking to do the same this year.”

When the Cherries return to England they will travel to Championship duo West Bromwich Albion on Friday 26th July 8 pm and Brentford less than a day later on Saturday 27th July 3 pm.

With home friendlies against Italian club Lazio on Friday 2nd August, 7.45 pm and French side Lyon less than 24 hours later on Saturday 3rd August, 3.30 pm.

For those of you thinking of going to Barcelona, take your swimming things and visit the open air Olympic Pool in Montjuic Park, just down the road from the Olympic Stadium. When I last went the facilities were quite basic but the spectacular setting and its view across the city is unique. Great place to swim and lounge about.

You’ll recognise the adjacent diving pool because it has been used in umpteen photo shoots. – Join the conversation, click here.
