AFC Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny has left the Cherries for a permanent move to League Two side Swindon Town.
The 24-year-old midfielder has been with the Cherries since he moved over from the Republic Of Ireland at the age of 16.
Kilkenny made his AFC Bournemouth debut in the Football League Cup back in August 2019 against Forest Green Rovers, with his Football League debut coming in December 2020 in the Championship against Barnsley.
During the following season under then AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker, Kilkenny enjoyed somewhat of a break-out season making 18 appearances in all competitions including 13 league starts and over 1,000 minutes of Championship football as the Cherries won promotion to the Premier League.
Following AFC Bournemouth’s promotion to the top flight of English football, Kilkenny spend the 2022/23 season out on loan, firstly with Stoke City in the Championship, however he only made 3 league appearances in that time and then he moved on to Charlton Athletic in League One making 8 league appearances.
Another loan spell to the third tier followed in 2024 when Kilkenny joined Fleetwood Town. The midfielder made 16 appearances between February and April, playing the most football of his young career to-date.
He now makes the move to Swindon Town looking for a fresh start.

Kilkenny told Swindon Town’s official website…
“It’s great to be here. It’s been in the works for the last couple of weeks and I’m now delighted to get it done.
“It felt like it was the right stage of my career now, with the age I’m at, it just felt right and I needed a new home and now I feel like it’s time for me to make this place a permanent home for me.
“First and foremost, I just want to work hard for the team and be reliable, put in a shift and I like to get on the ball and get the team playing and I feel like I can bring that to the team.”

Glad for him and wish him luck. I hope it gives him the platform he needs to rebuild because, as we saw, there’s a Championship level midfielder there if he gets his game right. – To join the conversation, click here.
