Manchester City to come knocking with £80million offer?

|

Over the past year, AFC Bournemouth and Netherlands international Nathan Ake has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City were all linked during the summer.

In October 2018, the first link with Manchester City emerged.

The transfer fee has always previously been quoted around the £40million figure as that fee is believed to be linked to a reported buy-back clause that former club Chelsea hold.

However, with Chelsea currently operating under a transfer embargo, that reported clause, if it does exist, is irrelevant as such Nathan Ake’s apparent asking price has doubled to £80 million according to a report in the Manchester Evening News.

The Manchester Evening News has claimed that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named AFC Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake as “the leading candidate” to improve the reigning Premier League champions defensive record.

The report adds that during Leicester City’s interest in Nathan Ake as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire who moved to Manchester United, “the Cherries were believed to be holding out for £80million”.

Players won’t tie themselves to us long term if they think we’ll stand in their way if a stupid offer comes in from a top club.

We may be paying £100k/week but, ridiculous as that sounds, a lot more is on offer elsewhere along with European football and the chance to compete at the top of the table most seasons.

A statement of our ambitions would be holding out for a stupid offer even if the player gets itchy feet when a lower offer comes in. To me, that would be a sign that we’re serious about being a PL club without potentially scaring players off. – Join the conversation, click here.
