AFC Bournemouth came from 2-0 down to level things at 2-2 against Luton Town, the momentum appeared to be with the Cherries however this petered out and the home side capitalised with a dramatic 97th-minute winner with the final kick of the game, stunning the Cherries and no doubt denting their moral ahead of their promotion challenge going into the final few months of the season.

After the game, Parker told Sky Sports

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb in the first half going two goals down, one an own goal, another one from 30 yards – the boy’s hit a great strike. For bits in the first half, I liked us but then I thought we got to the final third and really just pitted out, didn’t really cause them any problems through the first phase. We got up to that part of the pitch very well but didn’t have enough about us in those moments, and then second half, we showed unbelievable character, quality, the subs coming on made a difference and we get ourselves to 2-2.

“After 2-2, I thought we were right in the ascendancy, I thought we had the momentum with us, but it didn’t pan out like that really. At that point, the game became quite neutral and then they scored with literally the last kick of the game which is obviously devastating. I’m not sure we did enough to win the game, but certainly, I didn’t think we deserved to lose it.”

A real sickener.
It would have been understandable had we thrown men forward to try to win but we sat back. In that case we should have made a defensive substitution. We don’t seem to disrupt other sides’ momentum by going down or making subs.
We were caught in 2 minds. We had an attacking side on the pitch due to being 2 down, yet played a defensive game at the end.

Your say…

This current squad is nowhere near the Eddie Howe promotion one for excitement, entertainment, passion and ability to see off the opposition. We were renowned as the comeback kings with our fast-flowing one-touch style of football. Sadly this current squad is much less consistent in performance and does not possess the ball skills needed to get automatic promotion. For me, the loss of Cookie to Forest was unforgivable and has weakened our defence significantly. But then again my opinions might not be everyone’s.

Missed Billing.
Kilkenny is a better option than Cook.
Our set-pieces were pretty poor.
It seems to me that in almost every match I’ve seen there are periods of time when we give control of the game away…like we did in those last 10 minutes.
Every team that presses high against us often causes us problems.
All of these are issues that Scott Parker can solve.
Let’s not get over depressed chums.

Feels like we don’t have a plan B, if the opposition does their homework and nullify Solanke we merely make like for like changes e.g. lowe for Anthony. The tippy tappy try and pass our way into the net feels so ingrained in Bournemouth we literally know no other way, it’s been this way since Eddie, Tindall, Parker – don’t get me wrong when it works we look fantastic, but when opposition set up to counter this way of play we persist. I can understand why we are trying to sign dykes or Moore, add a new dynamic to the game, a plan B.

Would also love to see Lerma take more shots outside the box, he has a rocket but no one seems to have a go (other than Christie’s grass cutters) – Join the conversation, click here.
