King of the Toon?

AFC Bournemouth striker Joshua King has been linked with a move to Newcastle United by a tabloid newspaper.

The Sun has stated that “Benitez (Newcastle United manager) hopes to get the go-ahead from Mike Ashley (Newcastle owner) to invest in players and £20million-rated King is a priority”.

The report adds that “Benitez wants a new No9 – and Bournemouth’s Josh King is top of his targets.”

Ironically, King hasn’t featured much in the past two seasons as an out and out number 9, spearheading the Cherries attack.

Instead the Norwegian international has been played in a deeper number 10 role, either behind Benik Afobe last season, or Callum Wilson or Jermain Defoe this campaign.

Whilst seemingly preferring the front man role, he still flourished in the deeper role last season, scoring 16 goals in 36 appearances with 14 goals coming between New Years Eve 2016 and May 2017.

This season King has struck 6 times in 30 appearances.
