Injuries have left Bournemouth waiting, but the wait is nearly over

|

In mid-May, AFC Bournemouth made Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly their first summer signing.

Officially the fee was undisclosed, however previous reports suggest a £13million deal had been agreed, with Kelly signing a “long-term deal”.

An international with England at Under 21’s level, Kelly is relatively inexperienced with just one full season under his belt after graduating from the Bristol City youth set-up.

The 21-year-old impressed during pre-season, however, an ankle injury sustained in training left him sidelined for the first two months of the season.

He returned to make his debut in the League Cup against Burton, but a thigh strain has further hampered his progress.

The versatile defender, however, is not expecting to be given a watching brief for too long as he eyes breaking into the first team.

Kelly told afcb.co.uk

“…When I first came here, I wanted to play as many games as I could but picking up the first injury a couple of weeks into pre-season wasn’t ideal.

“To get this one a couple of weeks after I’d come back made it a bit of a double blow but it will give me time to make sure I’m right when I return…”

He continued…

“…I’m enjoying life here, it’s a nice place to live and there’s a good feel about the club. I’m enjoying every minute of it.

“I feel I’ve adjusted well to training. It’s a bit different to where I was previously and the manager wants to play a specific way. He wants to play exciting football with a lot of athleticism and I feel I’ve settled in well. I’m looking forward to playing as many games as I can.”

Really happy with the defence – I was always nervous with Asmir Begovic, but especially, Artur Boruc when we played out from defence. Artur is a great shot-stopper though.

Aaron Ramsdale seems so confident, let’s hope it continues.
I would like to think Mark Travers will be loaned out in January to give him playing time.

If we lose Nathan Ake next year I would like to think Lloyd Kelly will step in, I’ve heard such good things about him. – Join the conversation, click here.
