AFC Bournemouth manager Kevin Bond believes that Eddie Howe was bound for the Premiership before injury cut his career short.

Howe was sold by the Cherries for £400,000 to Portsmouth in 2002 for deal that included Richard Hughes, but Howe suffered an injury shortly after joining Pompey and was never the same player again.

Bond told the Daily Echo

‘He was a terrific player. He got a great move to Portsmouth and didn’t really get started there because of the injury. He would have gone on to play in the Premiership, of that I am certain.’

Now Eddie will concentrate on coaching and is hotly tipped to become the next Cherries manager. Bond added…

‘I think he would be prepared to make the difficult decisions and to be ruthless, which you have to be on occasions. But also, he would have humility.

‘Whether he could be a Bournemouth manager would be down to two things.

‘Firstly, whether he would want it and, secondly, he would need to be given the opportunity and quite often that means being in the right place at the right time.’
