AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe insists that record signing Matt Tubbs remains part of the Cherries promotion chase this season.
Tubbs made the move to Dean Court twelve months ago from Crawley Town, signing for a reported record fee in the region of £800,000.
Tubbs had been prolific for Crawley scoring 58 goals in 78 appearances. He scored on his Cherries debut but an injury left him on the sidelines for much of last season.
This season his opportunities have remained limited with just three league starts (one under Howe), with Lewis Grabban, Lee Barnard, Josh McQuoid, Wesley Thomas and Brett Pitman all at times being ahead of Tubbs in the pecking order.
He has however scored four league goals, leaving him with a record of five goals in 8 starts (plus 15 sub appearances).
With Lee Barnard returning to parent club Southampton following the end of his loan deal and Wesley Thomas on loan with Championship side Blackpool, Howe insists Tubbs remains in his plans despite expected enquiries during the January transfer window.
Howe told the Daily Echo…
“I am sure he will attract attention because he is a proven goalscorer. Wherever he has played, he has scored goals.
“Tubbsy is very much part of our plans and our squad and we don`t want to lose him.
“At the moment, Lewis (Grabban) and Brett (Pitman) have got the shirts and have performed very well but I am sure Matt, along with others, will get opportunities.”
