AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes that the squad will take the positives from the defeat to Newcastle United.

AFC Bournemouth dominated the game in front of the BT Sport camera’s on Saturday, boasting 68% possession, creating 20 shots on goal in comparison to Newcastle’s 2 and completed 581 passes to Newcastle’s 297.

But the only stat that matters was the result and that was the only statistic in Newcastle’s favour with Ayoze Perez beating Adam Federici after 27 minutes.

The result was AFC Bournemouth’s fifth defeat in a row, with four consecutive defeats in the Premier League either side of a League Cup defeat to Liverpool.

The Cherries have now dropped into the relegation zone in the Premier League and will remain there during the international break.

Howe told the Daily Echo

“It`s not ideal and we don`t want to be there, In some respects, it sort of brings some realism to the situation. We`ve got a fight on our hands.

“There is no negativity from our perspective, only positivity on the back of such a dominant performance against a good (Newcastle) side. We have to look at that aspect and take it into our next game…’

‘…The challenges for us are to come out of this spell and, I think once we do, we will be a lot stronger for it. There were so many positives to take from the game and you just have to look through the result.”

Your Say…

So do we give up passing possession football?

I’ve been proud for as long as I can remember about the culture of passing football that our club has stood by.

Through perfecting it and acquiring quality players it has taken us to The Premiership.

Tippy tappy has been the criticism of us when we haven’t been positive with it….but it has served us well.

(Against Newcastle) I thought we were excellent and it wasn’t because of passing football we lost….it was because we didn’t have a player to finish off our chances.

I’m of the belief our football is good enough….injuries have meant we lack a cutting edge.

So chums it seems a number of you feel we need to change our style a bit….to what? And have we the players to do this?

In my opinion we stick to our principles and invest in good players in January who can maybe add the quality we need…a bloody good finisher with speed and aggression and a strong central defender.

If this is not the case what style of football do we adopt?
