AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes the Cherries have pulled off ‘a real coup’ in the loan signing of Southampton defender Dan Seaborne.
Seaborne has made ten appearances thus far this season, three for Southampton in the League Cup and seven whilst out on loan with Championship side Charlton.
The 25 year old was also a target for a number of other Championship clubs, but has instead opted to bolster the Cherries defensive ranks for the remainder of the season.
Cherries manager Eddie Howe has made no secret of wanting to boost his defensive options, with no natural cover for either right back Simon Francis or left back Charlie Daniels.
With captain Miles Addison injured and Stephane Zubar failing to break into the first team squad in recent weeks, Tommy Elphick and Steve Cook have been the Cherries only defensive options at centre back.
Howe told the Daily Echo…
“…He is a left-sided defender, he is very experienced and is a leader. He is composed on the ball and good in the air and has all the attributes that we look for in a player.
‘We certainly feel we need defensive cover and he can operate at left-back as well. It is a signing that boosts our numbers defensively and adds competition for the squad. And with Steve Cook`s court case pending (click here), I think it was a signing we needed to make…
“…From his perspective, he is out of contract at the end of the season and very much wanted to go on loan and play some football. We managed to beat two Championship clubs to his signing and it is a real coup for us.”
