AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is not ruling out a last minute addition to his squad ahead of the transfer window closing.
With AFC Bournemouth captain Simon Francis currently sidelined through injury and young centre back Baily Cargill joining Fleetwood Town on loan, the Cherries are lacking defensive numbers.
Against Manchester City, Howe opted for a three at the back system with full backs Adam Smith and Charlie Daniels acting as wing backs.
With Tyrone Mings, Steve Cook and Nathan Ake all playing as the back three, there was no defensive cover on the bench, other than attacking left back Brad Smith.
Howe told the Daily Echo…
“We`re not close (to any new signings).
“I am not ruling anything out but certainly not ruling anything in. Let`s wait and see…”
‘…if we feel in the last few days of the window that there`s something we can do and think it would benefit the squad, then we will look to do it.”
Neil Dawson wrote…
Ake is an upgrade as an individual but our record when he plays, and Cook moves to the right is statistically worse. Still a player worth having of course. Begovic, in my opinion is not an upgrade on Boruc but is younger and an upgrade on federici.
The priority was a ball winner, creative midfielder and a right back to push and provide cover for Smith.
We did not address priorities again in this transfer window and the performances speak for themselves. Once again, huge question marks over having a nepotistic recruitment team. – Join the conversation here.
