Howe: No place better than La Manga

This week the AFC Bournemouth squad have been enjoying the facilities at Spain’s La Manga Club, where they will be based for a total of 11 days.

The La Manga resort boasts eight full-size pitches, three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm Wellness Centre.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe and his backroom team will put the players through double and sometimes triple sessions, as well as throwing in his often trademark bonding sessions ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

However those bonding sessions are usually used to help integrate new signings into the squad, but with just one new face in the squad thus far, David Brooks joining the club for £10million from Sheffield United, the focus will probably be strengthening the bond the players have already built.

Howe told the Daily Echo

“This will be my first trip to La Manga Club but I know several people who have been previously and my staff went out there earlier in the summer to fully look at everything and make sure it was the place we wanted to be this summer.

“Facilities-wise, I don’t think there is anywhere better. There is a huge array of things for us to do, to challenge the players in different ways, which we will of course do.

“We also have two great friendlies out there, really tough tests (Sevilla and Levante), so we are looking forward to those games.

“The main thing, though, is that the pitches and the football work will be of the highest quality.”

Your say…

Who else is getting a little bit twitchy at the lack of fresh legs coming in? I don’t mean this to be a negative post at all and honestly cannot wait for it to begin.

We have a great chance early in the season to pick up some much-needed points. We made one (expensive in my opinion) signing so far, but I really feel that our defence needs the investment that it’s been lacking over recent seasons. Right Back, Right-sided Centre Back are the areas I think we need to strengthen the most now!
