AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased with the overall performance against Everton, even though the result was a defeat.

The Cherries had taken the lead via Joshua King and looked on course to take all three points against an Everton side that despite having invested over £150million on the squad during the summer transfer window, has thus far struggled this season.

The home side were lacking in confidence and this was evident by the Goodison Park atmosphere, however substitute Oumar Niasse scored a brace to turn the game on its head and snatch the three points away from Eddie Howe’s side with the two goals coming in a five minute spell.

Howe told afcb.co.uk

‘I thought we played very well. We looked strong defensively and I thought we used the ball very well. We were a real threat on the counter-attack. Most elements of our play were strong, but the only criticism I have is that we probably should have put the game to bed by scoring more than the one goal we did. When we were a goal up the game was still very much in the balance and we didn`t defend those situations at that time very well.

‘When you`re only a goal up you always know that it can take just one moment to change things. That`s what has happened today. We had some great moments, some of which didn`t necessarily end up with clear shots at goal. In the second half I thought we looked very good, particularly going forward.

‘What shouldn`t be lost today is that it was a very good team performance. It`s difficult to say that, because the overriding emotion is one of disappointment. We`re in a lot better position than we were at last week, but we know we need to pick up some points.

Performances have definitely improved since Manchester City, such as in midfield Surman probably our best player against Everton (and once again clearing off the line) and our best midfielder the week before. Smith was also good against Everton, as well as King who grabbed the goal.
An overall positive performance and a shame we lost, in my opinion, Everton were quite lucky considering how well we played in the second half (mind the subs), now just cross our fingers and hope we can beat Leicester (we’re unbeaten against them in the PL).
