AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has admitted that he has been concerned with the number of injuries his players have carried into pre-season.
Shwan Jalal, Marc Pugh, Matt Tubbs and Josh McQuoid have yet to feature in any of the pre-season games thus far. Jalal injured his hand during the first few days of returning to training, whilst McQuoid injured his knee which he has now had surgery on. The pair both missed the Cherries training camp in Switzerland.
Ryan Allsop, Eunan O’Kane, Richard Hughes and Matt Ritchie all played a small part on the match against FC Zurich, but have then sat out the games against Christchurch and West Ham.
With the Cherries set to face Poole Town, Woking and Real Madrid this week, Howe is hoping to see more of his players available as he steps up his pre-season schedule.
Howe told the Daily Echo…
“It is a concern that we have had so many players out and I think that contributed to the difficulty we had in the second half against West Ham because we didn`t have a strong enough squad to make wholesale changes.
“None of them are long-term injuries and Ryan, Eunan and Richard, and, hopefully, Marc and Matt Tubbs should be fine in the next few days. Matt Ritchie might be slightly behind them though…”
