AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has backed his record signing to prove his potential over time.
The Cherries signed Ibe from Liverpool over the summer for a undisclosed fee reported to be in the region of £15million.
The England Under 21 international has suffered from indifferent form thus far this season and having started the majority of Premier League games he has recently lost his place in the starting XI to Joshua King and Junior Stanislas who have been alternating on the left and right wing.
Howe told the Daily Echo…
‘…with younger players I would encourage the fans to back them to the hilt. The players are trying their best, they`re giving their all.
‘Every player is different but they all need support to fulfil their potential…’
‘…I think there`s so much more to come from him. The potential of the player is limitless.
‘Technically and athletically he`s excellent. He has things to learn, he`s only 20 years old. We have to be patient but I believe he can make a real difference for us in the Premier League, given time…’
‘It’s not that Ibe is failing to get into good positions, but that he must be more effective when in those positions. His total of 37 touches in the opposition box is by far the most of any Premier League player this season without scoring a goal, providing an assist or creating a clear chance.
