AFC Bournemouth currently boasts an almost embarrassment of riches in central midfield.

This summer saw the Cherries spend over £35million on Colombia international Jefferson Lerma and Wales international David Brooks.

Both add options to a central midfield birth, however Brooks has made a wide right position his own since his arrival at Dean Court.

Harry Arter made his move to Cardiff City in search of first-team football, with Andrew Surman and Dan Gosling also battling for a midfield slot.

AFC Bournemouth have mostly with a midfield four with two up front. Many supporters and queried whether the additions of Brooks and Lerma would ultimately see a switch to a central three in midfield alongside Lewis Cook who has thus far been sidelined this season due to the form of those around him.

But whilst Howe firmly believes Cook will probably make his move into the starting XI, it won’t be through a change of system.

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo

“Going back to before the first game, we picked the team, basically, that we had against Marseille where we produced a really good performance.

“I didn’t want to deviate from that team for the first game and Lewis has fallen victim to that. He will have a big part to play this season, I have no doubt about that.

“He has come on in games and done well and played in the Carabao Cup, which was good to see.

“We have a very strong unit in central midfield and have some very good players all competing for two places. Lewis has a big future ahead of him.”

Hopefully, Lewis Cook is hungry to win his place back, but as said DanGosling is playing his guts out to stay in the side…the competition for the midfield is now fierce and that can only be a huge incentive for the likes of David Brooks, Andrew Surman, Jefferson Lerma, Cook and Gosling?

The more worrying thing is Jordon Ibe and his lack of progress given the time that he has had?….and Junior Stanislas will be back in the fold at some point to challenge for his place too!

These are great times for us..we shouldn’t forget our depth of squad now! – Join the conversation, click here.
