AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes that both AFC Bournemouth development squad coach Stephen Purches and Under 18’s manager Carl Fletcher could both enjoy a career in management.

Purches’ playing career unfortunately ended after he broke his leg just one month into his second spell with the club.

He spent the next 16 months on the sidelines before being announced as a player-coach, taking over the development squad from Chris Hargreaves in 2013.

Carl Fletcher left the Cherries in 2004 and went on to play for West Ham, Crystal Palace and Plymouth, where he eventually become manager during a difficult financial period for the club.

He returned to AFC Bournemouth as part of the youth team set up under new Head Of Youth Joe Roach in January 2014.

Howe told the Daily Echo

‘…I think Carl could be whatever he wants. It really depends on him and where he sees his motives and what he wants to do.

“I definitely see a future manager with Purchy. I think he is an outstanding young coach with all the right ingredients. Again, it will be dictated by what he wants…’

‘…Our relationships have been so strong over a long period of time so you would always do what`s best for them and try to help them achieve what dreams they want in their careers.

‘It`s a short career so I would have no problems there. But I can assure people that both are very committed to AFC Bournemouth at the moment.”
