AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was pleased to come through the Cherries trip to Blackpool with a win and another clean sheet.

The Cherries performance was far from the best we’ve seen this season, with a scrappy game of poor quality from both sides.

Eddie Howe’s side took all three points thanks to a Lewis Grabban penalty just minutes into the second half.

Grabban had beaten the Blackpool defence for pace and Blackpool ‘keeper Gilks took out the striker on the edge of the box.

Whilst the Cherries attacking threat was mainly limited to set pieces and shots from distance, AFC Bournemouth’s defence looked solid throughout with Tommy Elphick in particular dominating.

It was the first time this season AFC Bournemouth have taken back to back clean sheets.

Howe told the Daily Echo

‘…No one likes conceding goals, especially me as a (former) defender, so I`m delighted with the clean sheets and hopefully we can get more between now and the end of the season.

“In the Championship you can have the aerial, direct threat of a side like Blackpool and then there are passing sides that you come up against.

“You need to be prepared for every style of football and hopefully we`re learning from previous experiences and improving all the time.”

With Elliott Ward, Ian Harte, Harry Arter and Yann Kermorgant all missing through injury, Howe was also pleased with the strength in depth shown by his side.

He added…

“The pleasing thing is we`ve come through losing two very influential players (Arter and Kermorgant) for us to win.

“That goes to show that without four players (including Ward and Daniels) who have been excellent for us this year, we still managed to produce a performance.
