AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been delighted to secure the loan signing of Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc until the end of the season.

The 6ft 4′ shotstopper arrived at Dean Court in September initially on loan until January.

Boruc brought a huge amount of experience, having played for Legia Warsaw in Poland, Celtic in Scotland, Fiorentina in Italy and Southampton in the Premier League.

He has won four league titles, one in Poland and three in Scotland along with four cup competition honours in the same countries.

Boruc has also gained UEFA Champions League experience playing for Celtic and has 58 international caps to his name, representing Poland at the 2006 World Cup and 2008 European Championships.

Since making the move to Dean Court, Boruc has made 18 appearances and has remained undefeated in the league, with the only loss coming against Liverpool in the League Cup quarter final defeat.

However the loan extension until the end of the season does include a caveat that could see Boruc leave during the January transfer window.

Boruc is out of contract with Southampton at the end of the season, so if both Southampton and Boruc agree to a permanent move elsewhere in January, the Cherries would lose the ‘keeper.

Howe told the Daily Echo

“We are really pleased. Artur has played a very big part in our recent good form. He is popular in the dressing room, he has valuable experience of the level and the level above so we are delighted to keep him…’

‘…I think he has done everything we hoped he would during his time with us. I think the next stage really rests with Artur and where he sees his future beyond this season.

“The January situation isn`t ideal for us but we were aware of that when we took him and we will just have to wait and see what happens between now and the end of the season.”
