AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe praised defender Tommy Elphick for his performance against Middlesbrough.
The Cherries promotion winning captain has suffered a frustrating start to the new Championship campaign.
He initially lost his place in the side to new signing Elliott Ward after starting the season not fully fit and having watched Ward and centre back partner Steve Cook develop into a strong defensive unit, the Cherries captain has been forced to watch on from the sidelines.
Elphick made only his second league start of the season at Middlesbrough. His first came away to Huddersfield after Ward left the squad to be at the birth of his child. Whilst Elphick’s second chance came following a re-occurrence to Charlie Daniels’ ankle injury against Barnsley on Tuesday night.
Howe told BBC Radio Solent…
“He was excellent on Tuesday and I thought he was excellent again against Middlesbrough,”
“That`s why he started on Saturday and his attitude since being out of the team has been spot on.
“You don`t perform as he did in the two games if you let it affect you negatively. That`s a credit to him.”
